Masonry Heaters allow you to get more heat energy from a log of wood, while at the same time, releasing fewer particulate and CO2 into the environment than almost any other combustion heating system. As the wood is burned and the smoke travels through the long heat channels, the heat is absorbed into the brick and stone. This heat is then released slowly into the house long after the fire has gone out. It is common for Masonry heater owners to maintain comfortable levels of heating with just one firing in an 18-24 hour period.
